CMI Plastics is proud to announce the launch of a new awareness campaign against childhood cancer. Our goal is to help families fight against the cancer that has affected their lives. To aid the efforts, we will raise monies to donate to these families in need, and we’ve decided to do it in a different way. We’ve decided to defeat cancer one victory at a time.

CMI is sponsoring athletic teams to help us in this fight against childhood cancer. With every victory the sponsored team wins – CMI will put $100 towards the cause. At the end of the sponsored team’s season, the family or charity of choice will be presented with the raised money. By sponsoring athletic teams, we are able to spread awareness to a larger group of people – the athletes, the fans and the families.

Victory For A Cause Extends Its Reach

Victory for a Cause teams with Pediatric Cancer Foundation of Lehigh Valley in the fight against childhood cancer

Ayden, North Carolina –July 19, 2011: Today, CMI Plastics, Inc. announced that their organization, Victory for a Cause (VFC), will be partnering with the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of Lehigh Valley, Inc. (PCFLV) and Kutztown Rugby, in an effort to fight childhood cancer. PCFLV is a non-profit organization, located in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, who is dedicated to supporting children with cancer, as well as their families. Kutztown Rugby is an athletic team of Kutztown University, located in Kutztown Pennsylvania.

VFC and PCFLV share in their goal of helping families fight childhood cancer. PCFLV uses a number of ways to raise money and improve the lives of these children. PCFLV provides a full calendar of programs which focus on quality life and long term survivorship for children with cancer including a chemo circus program at the local hospitals, caregiver events such as spa days and date nights, support services and sibling support groups as well as education and recreational activities to focus on fine and gross motor skills. PCFLV works with the entire family recognizing childhood cancer as a disease that affects the entire family.

VFC supports the cause by partnering with athletic teams to raise money to fight childhood cancer. By sponsoring athletic teams such as Kutztown Rugby, VFC is able to spread awareness to a larger group of people including the athletes, the fans and the families of Kutztown Rugby. Then, with every victory the sponsored team wins, in this case, Kutztown Rugby, CMI will put one hundred dollars towards sponsoring a child with cancer. The sponsored children are known as VFC Champions, and at the end of the sponsor team’s season, the Champion and/or charity of choice are presented with the donation.

“We are honored to have the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of Lehigh Valley join with Victory for a Cause, alongside Kutztown Rugby. All of the organizations are intertwined, whether geographically or through an alumni relationship such as mine. I’m proud to be alumni of Kutztown Rugby and know the teams will play their hardest for our cause –one victory at a time,” said Steven Hasselbach, President of CMI Plastics, Inc. “I look forward to making this an annual effort with PCFLV.”

In September/October of this year, a check will be presented to PCFLV for all of the victories Kutztown has accomplished during the fall season of 2010, spring and summer seasons of 2011 and the money raised from the Rugby Lift-a-Thon. The ceremony will also include the naming of three Champions, who will be sponsored by the Kutztown Rugby Premier 15’s, Division One 15’s and Kutztown Rugby 7’s. These three children will become members to each of the teams and will be invited to follow the action as the season unfolds. Then, in September, 2012, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Victory for a Cause will host a ceremony at Kutztown Rugby’s home field to present the donations to the three VFC Champions.

“We have been trying for some time to find a way to connect our families more deeply with athletics in the community as a way to generate mutual support and team spirit. Partnering with VFC is a fabulous opportunity for our families, our foundation, Kutztown and VFC. We couldn’t be more delighted and excited to cheer on our teams and our champions and together enable children with cancer to LIVE!”

Ayden, North Carolina – November 16, 2010: Today, CMI Plastics, Inc. named the first two Champions of “Victory for a Cause”, an awareness campaign to help fight childhood cancer.

His name is Mikel Wilkins and he is seven years old. He was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia on October 22, 2009. He lives in Rocky Mount with his Parents and maternal Grandmother. Mikel also has autism so it can be more difficult for him to adjust to his multiple hospitalizations and clinic visits where he receives chemotherapy treatments. He will have at least seven to nine more months of chemotherapy appointments and has not been able to return to school since diagnosis. Mikel is generally very positive, enjoys cartoons and movies and has a great family!

Mikel’s sponsor team was the 97 PGSA Classic Green Soccer Team. The girls, along with Coach Darren Dawson and Manager Nanette Cicmanec, gave Mikel an autographed soccer ball and a PGSA sweatshirt. Through the teams’ victories and hard work this season, they earned this money to be given to Mikel.

Our next Champion is Amber Forbes. Amber was diagnosed with cancer at age 12 and treated with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy for several years. Cancer returned several years later and Amber finally had to have her leg amputated. She continues to receive chemotherapy treatments.
